I wanted to report a burglary at our home on 152nd st. this past Monday evening. We had been without power since Thursday morning and were staying in our RV next to the house. While we were gone Monday afternoon/evening thieves entered through a small laundry room window at the rear of the house. They moved a wheel barrow over to reach the window. Unfortunately with the power outage our alarm system was out of service and even the backup batteries were dead.

They stole a large screen TV, Xbox, laptop Computer and all of my wife’s jewelry and watches.

Based on our experience people need to be even more vigilant regarding strangers in the neighborhood while all the cleanup activity goes on, maintain backup batteries in alarm systems and ensure windows are secured. Recommendation has been made to install camera monitoring systems as this seems to be a better deterrent than alarm systems since thieves know the response time is “long”. Of course some form of backup power needs to be enabled to keep the camera(s) active.
